Windshield chip repair is usually considered when the damage is small, contained, not directly blocking the driver's view, and not connected to a long spreading crack. Repair is often faster than replacement and may help stop small damage from spreading.
When replacement becomes the better path
Replacement is more likely when the windshield has long cracks, edge damage, shattered sections, damage near advanced driver assistance cameras or sensors, or damage that affects visibility. Replacement may also be needed when previous repairs failed or the glass integrity is compromised.
